Voting Rights Act Fails in Senate

A Democratic-backed bill enacting sweeping changes to voting laws failed to reach the Senate floor due to filibuster rules. A second vote to bypass the filibuster was conducted, but failed to pass as well. In response to the bill’s failure, President Biden stated that he was “disappointed but not deterred” and reiterated his administration’s commitment to pass voting rights legislation.
